Gables apartments to replace vacant Fox & Hound building

The Austin Business Journal reported this week that Gables is preparing to break ground at the end of the year on their high-rise apartment site located on the former Fox & Hound, and the adjacent building housing the Gingerman Pub. The Gingerman plans to re-locate, and Gables reps said the facade of the building will be preserved in the new construction. The project plans call for 220 apartments for lease with 15,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space. The building is located across from Republic Square Park at 4th & Guadalupe. The building is expected to open some time in mid to late 2011.
Lofty project on tap at Mueller

Construction should begin this fall on a multifamily project at the master-planned Mueller development in Central Austin.
Greenway Lofts will feature 34 loft-style, one- and two-bedroom homes. Austin-based Green Synergy Projects will build the four-story building across from the Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas and next door to the new Seton Family of Hospitals headquarters. Read the full story here.
Gables erected two sky cranes last week for Phase I of Park Plaza, a luxury apartment community that will offer ground floor retail and outdoor park space at the corner of Cesar Chavez & Lamar. The previously vacant property is across the street from the Lady Bird Lake Hike & Bike trail and next door the the planned redevelopment of the Seaholm Power Plant – slated to include a boutique hotel, shops, restaurants, office space and an outdoor plaza. Phase I of Park Plaza is to include several hundred apartments with ground floor shops and restaurants. Phase II is to include approximately 100 condominiums for sale. Stay tuned for more updates.
Kimpton Hotel Van Zandt back on track

After over a year of silence, JMI has resurrected plans for the Kimpton Hotel next door to the newly opened Shore Condominiums. The hotel, however will now be 16 floors instead of 29, as the condos in the Van Zandt were removed from plans due to concerns with the market and difficulty in obtaining financing for new condos. We received information that construction will commence this fall – potentially in October. Stay tuned…
Hotel and office development may go up at Barton Creek Mall
Published August 1, 2008 Uncategorized Leave a CommentA new hotel may be built in the parking lot at Barton Creek Mall overlooking downtown Austin. The plans still have to go through the approval process, but the developers plan to present plans to the neighborhood next week. Simon may expand the mall as well. Read more…
South Congress may get a new boutique hotel soon. Dick Clark is working on a design for the vacant lot directly south of the Baptist church across from South Congress Cafe. The church will not comment on the development but the Statesman said they plan to put the land on a long term lease the to developers. The church had planned to move and sell the land the sanctuary resides on to Winston Capital to build the San Jose Lofts, but thus far any construction has yet to commence and it’s unknown when, if ever, it will begin. This hotel announcement comes on the heels of Liz Lambert’s (Jo’s coffee, Lambert’s BBQ, Hotel San Jose) renovation of an old bed and breakfast just off Congress on Academy. Stay tuned…
Austonian begins work on residential tower

Despite rumors that construction would halt at the completion of the parking structure, work has proceeded on the residential tower at the Austonian. Currently the 11th floor, the first residential floor in the 56 story tower, is being poured. See the Statesman article here:
